Find any note, anywhere
Every fret raises the pitch by one half step. After B comes C and after E comes F with no sharp in between — everywhere else there's a sharp. Pick a note to see every place it lives.
Open strings
From thickest to thinnest: E A D G B E. Try "Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie."
The 12th fret
Everything repeats one octave higher at fret 12 — learn frets 0–12 and you know the whole neck.
Octave shapes
From a note on the 6th string, go up 2 strings and 2 frets to find the same note an octave higher.
